Today, the 2nd August 2010, the SQUARROWS boys and girls celebrate our 7th birthday!!! It's been a bumpy road ... but it was worth it! Here's to many more!!!!

Hello peoples!!! As promised yesterday, the update is here. Had two okes from Vodacom sorting out my internet connection this morning ... now everything is sweeeeeeeeeeeet!!!

So ... as some of you know ... I'm a gots!!!!
[for those of you wondering WTF is a gots and a gots not, here's a simple explanation: when you art got a bike ... you're a GOTS, and when you don't ... you're a GOTS NOT, coz ... you GOTS NOT A BIKE! Understood?? So, before I blah blah blah ... let's get this fokken update happening!!!

The IRON PIGS SOUP KITCHEN
Ja mense ... I will mention this with every update as the update co-incides with the weekend that the last soup kitchen happened. Once again, lekka socialising, catching up on all the happenings in the biking world, meeting new friends ... ALL FOR A GOOD CAUSE! The IRON PIGS totally rock. Every 2nd week, these girls and guys (with the usual friends) continue to feed the less fortunate (+/- 1000 kids and adults) with very-lekka-moerse pots of soup. If you want to change peoples' lives, and help the less fortunate ... get involved.
Simple donations of soup ingredients are required, and if you wanna be more hands on and peel a couple of carrots and potatoes, please make contact with any of the IRON PIGS or give Gary a call @ 0836101727.

what's been happening in SQUARROW LAND ...
Marvy ... is a GOTS!
Besides being moerse happy (still got that stupid smile on my face), there is a method behind the madness here. It's not only about the new bike (serious), but also about the great experience in purchasing this bike.
SO ... the story goes like this:
In the beginning of July 2010, I decided it was time for an upgrade. My GSX-R600 was perfect, but I'd lost some respect for it. So, I contacted a few bike shop here in Cape Town and to my surprise ... only 1 of the 6 shops had what I was looking for. I was in the market for a 2009 GSX-R 750. Everyone else was either:
- trying to convince me to buy a DUISEND (a.k.a. GSX-R 1000), or
- didn't bother to get back to me
Being a bit despondent, I tried my luck in searching the interWeb for a bike, and came across the AWESOME staff at
HONDA KYALAMI CAYENNE! Not only did they have what I was looking for, their pricing was a whole lot more competitive than here in Cape Town, and they threw in a few goodies for good measure. I traded in my K6 GSX-R600 (got a better trade-in as well), which was collected by Bike Extreme on behalf on Honda Kyalami. Although there was a little delay from the bank, this experience was magical. Best service I've ever had ... and to think they're +/-1800km away from me.
So ... to Berto Santos, Rae Chapman, Craig Langton and all the other awesome staff at
Honda Kyalami Cayenne ... I salute you! You guys set a very high standard - still to be found here in Cape Town.
And if any of you boys or girls want to get hold of them, give them a call @ 011 466 1902.
So ... back to me. So the guys from BIKE EXTREME delivered my bike, with all the goodies. The peeps at HONDA KYALAMI CAYENNE ... thank you.
To cut an even longer story short ... let me rather post some pics. Here's my new GSXR 750! One more thing: I've retired my RED helmut. I've added a pic of the new one in the gallery.

New cameras trap speedsters from a distance

Motorists who brake to avoid getting caught in stationary speed traps won't have the same leeway with a new handheld device, which gives traffic officers the power to trap up to several hundred metres from where they are standing.
And, while stationary speed traps mean fines will arrive in the mail, the new system will allow traffic officials to immediately stop and issue summons, and in some cases even arrest offenders.
Launched on Thursday, the Prolaser 3 speed cameras were hailed by Community Safety MEC Lennit Max as an attempt to "go back to basics".
