** Kurt Abrahams (a.k.a. Uncle Kurt) Fundraiser **
presented by Peace of Africa Projects

Kurt Abrahams Fundraiser "We have a close personal friend (Kurt Abrahams ) who was involved in a motorcycle accident on 16th December 2009 and suffered major injuries which required extensive orthopaedic and plastic surgery interventions. He was admitted to Vincent Palloti Hospital where he spent 94 days in ICU and 3 weeks in a general ward. He was also admitted to the UCT Private Academic Hospital for 2 months for extensive physiotherapy.

There are a number of outstanding medical bills which he needs to cover personally to the amount of +- R300 000.00 ( three hundred thousand ).He has been booked off from work for an indefinite period. He is the sole bread winner. Doctors and hospitals are now demanding their outstanding payments and threatening him with legal action. Kurt Abrahams Fundraiser

We as a group of his friends have decided to hold a fund raising event to try and raise as much money as we possibly can to assist him and his family with his medical expenses.

As soon as we are ready with the flyers I will forward you all a copy and if by just forwarding it on to as many people in your email address group would be greatly appreciated as well.

Amazing Race for bikers 2010

2nd AMAZING RACE for BIKERS!!!! Now if you didn't participate in the 1st Amazing Race, then you clearly missed out. One of, if not the most ingeneous biking events EVER!

So, you should be familiar or heard of the Amazing Race that runs on the television. Same concept, only that this one entails that your only mode of transport if your bike ... and your feet. You and a pillion have to make your way from one unkwown point to the next, figuring out cryptic clues and finishing off challenges to make it to the end point. The difference between the 1st Amazing Race and the 2nd Amazing Race, is the following:
  • this year's Amazing Race takes part outside of Cape Town (+/- 140kms)
  • Saturday, 6th November into Sunday, 7th November 2010
  • it's a sleepover event (can't let a moeg rider and pillion ride all the way back to Cape Town, plus you get to party afterwards)
  • R150 per person secures your badge, sleepover and refreshments along the way
  • this year's theme is Eco-Friendly Bikers
  • Guaranteed ... you will do something you have NEVER, EVER, done before
Seeing that Nats and I have already signed up to defend our title (Yes, we won it last here with AMAZING prizes totalling R7000!), here's some (non-biased) testimonials about last year's Amazing Race:

Supie 1st entrant [rider], therefore 1st on the road

"What do I write.
Well it was well organized and loads of fun and tiring as hell. Clues and challenges were unique and well thought out making it very exciting. Valuable lesson was that u should read the clue properly and talk with ur partner. Acting to soon and heading off to the next stop cause part of the clue gave u an idea can cost u lots of time in the wrong place.

This time around it will be out of town, so u won’t know the place perhaps and then u gonna have to rely on common sense and ur partner."

Zoë 1st entrant [pillion], therefore 1st on the road

"AMAZING RACE: MY EXPERIENCE

Well our experience started with our first clue which was posted to us, well the answer was THE PAVILLION IN STRANDFONTEIN, which was our starting point to our AMAZINNNNGGG RACE!! Well Supie and I were the first entrants and left first well what good did it do as we finish tenth(not too bad hey).

Well our personal faults was not reading the clue together which threw us off course (which this time we clearly learned from our mistakes and will change things in the next amazing race). It is a perfect race for biker’s to find out what there rider or pillion is all about especially their strengths and weaknesses. When we got to our last clue we ended at PRINCESSVLEI, we actually didn’t want it to end as we had soooo much fun and is very excited for the next AMAAAZZZIIINNGG RACE!!!A well thought of event and something different for every biker to experience at least once in their life time."

Lisle 7th entrant [pillion], therefore 7th on the road

"If you weren’t there last year, well what a bummer, because you missed out on a whole lot of enjoyment and jocularity.
I’ve only attended but a few biker functions like the Poker Run etc, which I thoroughly enjoyed. But having done The Amazing Race, I have to say it was without a doubt the best and most enjoyable fun I’ve had yet. Those who participated haven’t stopped talking about it, not to mention all the laughs we’ve had looking back.
Yes it is very much like the Amazing Race you see on tele but fortunately on a less intensive scale. Running on the beach in full biker gear is no freaking joke. And yes people, if you think you can put together a jigsaw puzzle faster than a 3 year old, in full leathers (while the sun is shining at a whopping 30 odd degrees), you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

The competition was on – big time and the adrenalin was pumping. There was a fantastic 1st prize to be won (2 nights @ a private game lodge, with game drive and Ferrari apparrel, prize worth R7000) and so the race was on. But if you didn’t read your clues carefully, you would find yourself lagging behind or even getting a bit lost at times. What a laugh, what unforgettable fun.

To end an already great day, a late lunch was served (which was inclusive in the entrance fee) and there was plenty to go around. Drinks were on sale and the jollification continued till well into the night.

The Amazing Race was AMAZING and then some. I have no doubt that this year the course holds even more of a challenge but that it will be jam-packed with fun, fun and more fun.
MAKE SURE YOU DON’T MISS OUT AGAIN! ENTER NOW!"

A HUGE thank you to Paullie and Renè for their detailed version of the event. This sums up exactly how things happened. DANKIE JULLE!

René and Paullie 9th entrant [rider and pillion], therefore 9th on the road

"The Iron Pigs MCF first Amazing Race for Bikers 2009. What an awesome day! Where do I begin ...? As I recall the events, it went a little something like this ...

It was a dark and stormy night ... oh sorry, wrong story.
It was a fresh and windy October morning. The day we'd been for had finally arrived. With our first clue tightly in hand, all opgesaal and good to go, we made our way to the starting point. The clue was easy and led us to Strandfontein Pavillion, where we met up with some of the organisers, the rest of the participants, a lekker crisp ocean breeze coming straight from the south east, and as luck would have it, before you could even say 'on-your-marks-get-set-go' who pulls up into the car park to see what are going here on, oh look, it's MrOccifer! But it was all good, and after a quick briefing as to how the amazing race works, and a word of thanks and prayer, it was game on!

Clue number 2 took us to Muizenberg where the task was to putt a hole-in-one. While Paul strategically parked the Bandit, I headed down to the putt-putt course and effortlessly scored us the next clue. Next we wereoff to Kalk Bay to find a lady dressed in white and green – her name was Ivy Doreen and she'd tell us what to do to find the next clue. We knew exactly where this boat, yes BOAT, would be docked so we found her with ease, but the clue she gave made us go all the way down to the end of the pier. And yiissseeeee, do you have any idea how long that pier is when you are already out of breath, and under pressure, and rushing, and excited, and on your way you open that clue and read it only to discover that when you get to that little lighthouse beweging at the end of that pier you have to read out loud a tongue twister of note, withouthakkelingnogal! Yooooorrrrr! But let me tell you, that woodchuck chucked a whole lot of wood my way, and stukkie blitz for good measure, because so far this team was aan die brand, and the only thing harder than getting through that rhyme was having to run all the way back down that looongpier, through the restaurant and back up to the car park to the bike. But we did it ... lekkeruitasem, but smiling and ready for the next challenge!

The clue said go to Glencairn Beach. So we went. But ai, you know hey, if beach baseball was a real sport, I don't think anyone in this thing would ever be 'onse WP' because if the ball wasn't being hit into the waves (of shark-infested waters), then it was landing on the railway tracks, or just simply moeredinto oblivion that you run yourself deurmekaar on that beach up and down desperately looking for that ball like your life depended on it. Here I must just point out that in this amazingly frantic madness, for most of us the process of saal-op, saal-af, saal-op, saal-af is areal las, way too time consuming, and just not worth the effort. So now you have to actually try and imagine what this picture might have looked like in the eyes of say, a tourist on a Hylton Ross bus going down the Main Road: bikers, on the beach, in big biker jackets, with bulky biker boots, and wearing helmets running their asses off up and down the beach swinging baseball bats like maniacs! I'm just saying.

At this stage, too, I am now feeling my heart beating on my ear drums already. Because, just so you know, running around on beach sand, in boots, leather jacket and wearing a helmet is not normal, and yes it will make you feel your heart beat on your ear drums. Ok?)

But thanks to excellent planning by the Iron Pigs, after this task there was a much needed pitstop set up close by where we could catch our breath and chill a bit with a cool refreshing drink. Not to get too comfortable or lose momentum and time, as other bikes starting pulling up so that was cue enough to get us going again ... Time to go!!!

With False Bay now behind us, we headed up and over OuKaapseWeg to the Barnyard in Tokai where the instruction was to find Charlotte and Phumba. Given that this venue is a mini farmyard and that the organizers name is part farm animal, it kind of made sense that Charlotte and Phumba were ... hmm ... not chickens, no. Once we found them in their cozy little varkhokkie, we got another task to complete: assemble a kiddies jigsaw puzzle for the next clue. Ok, again, just to put things into perspective here: The Barnyard is located on the posh side of Tokai. (There by Reddam, man!) There are farm animals here, there's a kiddies play area, there's a café/restaurant ... you get the idea. The children get to play in this farmyard environment becoming 'one with nature' en so aan, you know, talking to horses etc. Toe kom die mal biker mense hier in! Picture it now: very, very family orientated set up, baby farm animals, small children everywhere, prams and toys etc ... and in the middle of all this you have, all of us, in our jackets, boots, helmets etc making jigsaw puzzles on the grass. Yet another classic Kodak moment brought to you by Charlotte and Phumba. Overheard: 'Mommy , mommy why are they doing this?!'

Oh yes, and of course this leg would have been incomplete without one of the posh mommy's having an aneurism in the car park: she couldn't get her X5 or Land Cruiser or whatever the hell it was out, because someone who was still very busy with puzzles, had parked her in and she was not amused. But we were. Haaaa ha! Moving along ...

Zandvlei was the next stop. Ok, I worried a little at first because the clue for this one said something about Surf or Turf, and had a feeling this had nothing to do with calamari or steak, so it probably meant watersports. En ek het nielusvir watersports nie. Fortunately though, this one was a Roadblock which as any Amazing Race fundi will know, 'a Roadblock is a choice between two tasks, performed by one team member only'. We opted for Turf and Paul completed the task with great success! So ecstatic was he, that he jumped up so fast to do a little happy dance while running simultaneously that he landed on the ground with an almighty ploeg that had me in a fit of laughter ...

We received our last clue and off we went to Princess Vlei on the M5, where we had to build a fire at this our final destination. Burn the string, go to the mat to clock in, and you're done. The comaraderie here was awesome – remember all through this we had a lot of wind to contend with, so when a team pulled up and had to start their fire, everyone would gather around the fireplace, form a barrier to help block out the wind. I thought that was really cool. And no one left the site until everyone else had arrived, made their fires and clocked in on the mat.

Once that was all done, exhausted but happy and high on life, we headed off to the Swallows club house where we all enjoyed a few cold ones, had some braai for lunch, chilled at the poolside, socialising and recapping on all the hilarious different versions of everyone's day. Various prizes were awarded to teams, with the main prize going to Marvy & Nats for completing the race in the shortest time and scoring themselves a weekend away for two to the Assegaai Lodge near Calitzdorp. Well done you two!

The Amazing Race for Bikers was definitely an enjoyable and memorable experience. Thanks again to The Iron Pigs MCF for organizing this event so well, and we look forward to the next one!

Parrot form the Plein

A parrot on a perch is sitting in front of a pet store in Mitchell's Plain. A woman walks by. The parrot says to her:
"Hey lady, djy's kak lelik."
The woman is furious! She storms past the store to her work. On the way home she sees the same parrot and it says to her again:
"Hey lady, djy's kak lelik." upsetting her again.
The next day the same parrot again says to her:
"Hey lady, djy's kak lelik."
The woman furiously went into the store and said that she would sue the store and have the bird killed. The store manager promised he would see to it that the Parrot would not be so rude again. When the woman walked past the store that day after work the parrot called to her:
"Hey lady."
She paused and said: "Yes?"
The bird said:
"Djy wiet MOS!"
